CHANGING LOCAL SECURITY POLICIES FOR WINDOWS XP

Problem when trying to access the C$ share on a XP system.

To change local security policies on a Windows XP box (enter
"gpedit.msc" into the "Run" dialog box).

Under "Windows Settings" > "Security Settings" > "Local Policies" >
"Security Options", I found this little nugget:

"Network Access: Sharing and security model for local accounts"

Be sure it is to "Classic: Local users authenticate as themselves" instead of "Guest Only"

The result of this is when your trying to access another XP box using a
local user account, I was getting authenticated as Guest, no matter
what I did. Once I changed this setting to "Classic," I was able to
access the C$ share with no problems.
