Get Rid of the Low Disk Space Notification

Okay, you already know that you're low on disk space. You don't need Windows to rub it in every time. You really are going to get around to installing a second hard disk and/or deleting some of those old, unneeded files - one of these days. Here's how to turn off the notification by editing the registry:

  1. Open your favorite registry editor.
  2. Navigate to the following key:
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer
  3. Create a new DWORD value by clicking Edit | New | DWORD value.
  4. Name the new value NoLowDiskSpaceChecks.
  5. Double click it and set the data value to 1.
  6. Restart the computer or log off and log back on.

Note that this will only get rid of the notification for the user account that was logged on when you made the change. If you log onto the computer with a different account, the notification will still display.
