How to Add Icons to the Windows Explorer Toolbar

Want to be able to perform more tasks with a single click in the Windows Explorer interface? For example, if you map network drives often, you might want to put the Map Drive icon on the toolbar. Here's how:

  1. Right click Start and click Explore to open Windows Explorer.
  2. Right click the Toolbar (with the Back, Forward, Up, Search and Folders icons) and make sure the toolbar is unlocked (click Unlock the toolbars if necessary).
  3. Also in the right context menu, click Customize.
  4. In the list of available toolbar buttons on the left, scroll down to find the button you want to add (in this case, the Map Drive button). Highlight it and click the Add button in the middle.
  5. Click Close and the new icon will appear in the toolbar.

You can remove icons from the toolbar by clicking them in the right window and clicking the Remove button.
